“As the custodian of the word, Mary will hold a special place in your life as deacons. We are told in the Gospels that she treasured all matters pertaining to Christ in her heart. It was only until after the Resurrection that Mary handed on to the apostles what she treasured in her heart. It was Mary who became central in the life of the apostles and, no doubt, the one who explained the word to them. That is why she is Queen of the Apostles. She was present in the midst of the apostles at Pentecost as the Holy Spirit came upon them. She will be present in your midst as one who hands on to you what she treasured in her heart most especially by the way she lived it. As you hand on the word of God, it must be something that you treasure in your hearts, living it most intently as did Mary.”
