Several days ago, a reader dropped me an e-mail about an upcoming art exhibit in Louisville, Kentucky.

This looks like something truly special: an exhibit of the work of Frederick Hart, whose contributions to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and the National Cathedral in Washington are nothing less than stunning. (That’s part of his famous “Ex Nihilio” in the picture to the left.)

I confess I don’t know much about Hart’s life, but his work speaks volumes. He died tragically young, but left behind sculptures that live on for their power and poetry.

My e-mailer wrote:

He was a rebel in his youth but found his passion working on the west façade of Washington National Cathedral and, converted to Catholicism through his theological studies for his Creation Sculptures, a commission he received at only 31 years of age…Frederick Hart was a devout Christian who left a body of work which expresses his belief in truth, beauty and goodness,

Visit the links above for more information on the show and the artist. The exhibit runs through mid-November.
