We’re coming up on Father’s Day, and if you haven’t yet thought up the perfect way to make Dad’s day, you might want to let the cosmos be your guide.
My own dad is a Leo, so he always appreciates looking good. This is him with me at the Oregon coast about a hundred years ago, and as you can see he was quite handsome — and still is!
I often get him one of those semi-cheesy Hawaiian shirts that never seem to go out of style (mostly because they were never in style to begin with), or a fancy dop kit with expensive, nice-smelling shave cream. And I haven’t had a complaint out of dad, yet!
Here are some more great ideas based on your own dad’s horoscope sign:
Aries (March 21 – April 19) — Fire up the grill! Aries is a fire sign, so get him a new barbecue or accessories to fuel his flame!
Taurus (April 20 – May 20) — Taurus dad’s love to relax, eat, get outdoors and chill. Make him an elaborate dinner, or get him a gift certificate for a massage.
Gemini (May 21 – June 20) — These intellectual dads love to read, watch movies, play with gadgets and video games. Get him something to stimulate his mind!
Cancer (June 21 – July 22) — Cancer dads are softies, so get him something sentimental. Think about a framed family photo or a really sweet card.
Leo (July 23 – August 22) — Glamorous Leo dads love to look good, so get him a stylish shirt or a new grooming kit!
Virgo (August 23 – September 22) — Virgo dads are very practical, and they’re also into good health. Give him something he can use for both, like a new pair of running shoes or comfy headphones he can wear while working out.
Libra (September 23 – October 22) — These social dads love to dress up and go out, so think about a gift certificate to a restaurant or a show, and maybe a bottle of cologne to spruce him up before the big night out.
Scorpio (October 23 – November 21) — Scorpio dads love mystery, so a great spy novel by someone like John le Carré would be perfect. Or take a step further and get him a police scanner so he can listen in on some real life action!
Sagittarius (November 22 – December 21) — Sag dads love parties and adventure, so get him something new for camping or related to travel. He’d love a backpacking stove, a passport holder or a membership to the Beer-of-the-Month club.
Capricorn (December 22 – January 19) — These hardworking dads take their careers and their finances seriously. Try gifting him an engraved money clip, or a new leather briefcase to keep his papers in order.
Aquarius (January 20 – February 18) –Quirky, intellectual Aquarius dads love new technology. Get him a new gadget from the electronics store, like something to help him keep track of those keys he’s always losing!
Pisces (February 19 – March 20) — Artsy Pisces dads often love to write or take photos. Photography equipment is a great gift, or a fancy engraved pen and leather journal to document his dreams.
Have a great Father’s Day! Here’s one last gift idea:
I can’t believe another weekend is almost here already! Life sure speeds up while the Sun is in Gemini, doesn’t it? But I’m happy to report this weekend’s lovecast is once again as hot as the weather.
This makes two loving weekends in a row, in case anyone is counting!
This weekend begins on a sexy note because we’ve got a sensual Taurus Moon on Friday night, perfect for staying in and creating some pleasure together. I think I can handle that. Wink wink.
And don’t worry if you’re single, because the Moon joins the Sun in Gemini on Saturday, setting up both singles and couples for a fun, flirty time. Who says you can’t still flirt with your partner, even if you’ve been coupled up for years, right? Put some fun back into it!
Get out there Saturday night and mix and mingle. Go dancing, strike up a conversation with someone interesting and enjoy the playful energy in the air.
You might just find yourself staying up all night and talking your way on into Sunday, so take that day as it comes. Keep yourself open to making spontaneous plans — maybe even with that special new person you met the night before.
It’s pretty common to hear about people making drastic life changes in the years from around 28-30 — people have epiphanies, quit jobs, leave marriages, go back to school, have babies, etc. and so on. Anything to shake it up, and find more meaning in their lives.
What many don’t realize is how universal this phenomenon is, and how it’s actually related to the planet Saturn — the cosmic taskmaster who teaches us how to align our values with our goals and put them into action.
Saturn takes about 29 years to orbit the Sun, so when we each turn about 29, Saturn returns to the same part of the sky where it was when we were born — this is called our Saturn Return, and we can feel it for a couple of years before and after it actually happens.
There’s a lot of upheaval in life during these years, but it’s really just about coming into alignment with your true life path.
For example, if you married the wrong man when you were too young to realize what you were doing, as I did, you’ll probably figure that out right around your Saturn Return. Or if you majored in communications when you really want to be a veterinarian, you’re bound to start dreaming of going back to school during these years.
The Saturn Return can be a time fraught with frustration, anxiety, depression and even desperation, but this all serves to get you thinking and moving in the right direction.
That’s certainly true for me. Those years were among the most difficult of my life, but looking back I can’t even imagine a life in which those painful decisions hadn’t been made — and I’m grateful I had the courage to make them or my entire life would be less fulfilling now.
I’m sure those of you older than 30 know exactly what I mean. The rest of you will have to trust me that your Saturn Return is working for you rather than against you, and it will all shake down for the best in the end.
You know what they say — Time heals all wounds. Or wait, is it time wounds all heals? Whichever it is (probably both), the time for healing is now. That’s because Chiron, “the wounded healer,” is retrograde, and this planetary body packs quite a cosmic whallop.
Technically an asteroid, Chiron is associated with wounds and it has the healing power to transform our deepest hurts into something positive. So now that Chiron has gone retrograde from June 11 to November 10, 2012, we have a five-month long opportunity to find healing by looking within ourselves.
This might be a painful process, but it will be well worth it. Or at least I hope it will. My own heart hurts most in the area of trust, so revisiting past betrayals in order to get past them doesn’t sound like too much fun.
That said, if you’ve been through any traumatizing experiences that have left you feeling, well, “damaged” or carrying painful emotional baggage, as I have, this is a great time to work on repairing that hurt and transforming our pain into peace.
We’re going to need to identify the things that hurt the most before we can begin healing, of course, which is the painful part. But once we’ve worked through it (with help from Chiron), we’ll feel free and lighter than we have in years.
Good luck! If you need a place to start, I’d recommend a Tarot reading for insight. I’m going to do one myself, asking the question “What can I do to help me trust people again?” Bring it on, Chiron, let’s get this party started!
