Get ready for a wild week! We’re kicking it off with a lot of conflicting cosmic activity and an impulsive Aries Moon, and by week’s end both Uranus and Mercury will be retrograde. Summer is about to spin out of control!
Our emotions might be all over the place this week — the next few days will be intense, but then we’ll be able to slow down, breathe and get ready for life in retrograde. But it’s likely we’ll spend more time than usual in our heads the next few weeks.
Uranus goes retrograde on Friday, July 13 — and yes, did I mention it’s also Friday the 13th?! (Not that the date holds any astrological significance, but some folks are certainly superstitious about it.)
Uranus is the rebel planet, and when it goes retrograde we turn that rebellion inward and start thinking about needing to make changes in our lives. So this will probably stir up more intense emotions.
Then, Mercury goes retrograde on Saturday, July 14, and it’s time to rent that vintage ’80s John Cusack movie, “One Crazy Summer.”
With Mercury going retrograde in the sign of Leo at the height of summer, things are bound to get dramatic. Mercury Retrograde is associated with technical problems, mixed-up messages and inaccurate information. And Leo is a very expressive sign. So take extra care with your summer vacation plans, and expect some brilliant (or offbeat and crazy) ideas to pop into your head — but think twice before you say something extreme you might later regret.
I’m going to spend the next few weeks trying to chill out. I’m going to listen and learn rather than run around and gab as I usually do (hello, Gemini here!). Hopefully that will keep me out of trouble. Luckily I have some woodsy weekends planned that are perfect for resting and relaxing and keeping my head on straight during this retrograde summer spell.

I’m pretty excited about camping in my boyfriend’s Volkswagen Westfalia pop-top camper van this weekend! I’m even more excited that the Weekend Love Horoscope is all about going with the flow, because it’s hard to camp in a van and not feel a little bit like a free-wheelin’ hippie.
We’ve got a Pisces Moon for most of the weekend, which is a very spiritual sign. It should increase our sensitivity, and also make our dreams more vivid. My dreams are always more vivid when I’m sleeping in the wilderness, so this should be interesting — let’s just hope I don’t dream up anything too vivid like a big black bear.
Adding to all this ethereal energy, The Pisces Moon is making a conjunction with Neptune early Saturday morning, and Neptune is the planet we also associate with dreams. This is basically going to make romance super soft and fuzzy for most of Saturday.
Hmmmmm … let’s see. I’m going off into the wilderness on a romantic weekend that’s all about feelings and emotions. Wow, maybe now’s the time to try and get my man to talk about his dreaded feelings! Lol
Then again, maybe I’ll just let it go for now. After all, this weekend is about feeling what you feel without overthinking it, living in the moment and letting go of expectations. I can do that for sure. As long as I can dream up enough smores.

Uh-oh! I just realized I have a camping trip planned for Saturday, July 14 — the day Mercury goes retrograde — and I’m the one driving our gang to the lake!
Mercury goes retrograde about three or four times each year, and it’s never a good idea to be traveling during this time — especially if you’re heading into the wilderness. Just try getting AAA out to fix your tire on a Forest Service Road. Not gonna happen!
But I’m not going to let that stop me. I’m a semi-pro camper, after all! And I’m also an Astrology semi-pro, so I know just what to do: Prepare!
That’s the real key to managing Mercury Retrograde. All you have to do is study up on what kinds of things can go wrong, and then prepare some contingency plans to solve any problems that may arise.
Mercury Retrograde tends to cause problems with both travel and technology, so for this particular camping trip I’m going to make sure my car is checked out before we hit the road, and that I have plenty of spare tires, road flares, extra flashlight batteries and duct tape in the trunk.
I’ll also make sure to fully charge up my mobile phone before we leave (it has GPS we might need), and I’ll do my best not to drop it in the lake. And you know what else? If I do drop my phone in the lake, I’ll still have a good old fashioned map — because THAT is how a camping professional prepares for MRx.

It’s the Fourth of July here in the U.S., but to me the holiday is just as much about personal freedom as it is about the freedom of our country.
My mind always wanders when I’m looking up at the fireworks. My gaze goes back and forth between the bright bursts of color in the night sky and back down to the crowds of couples, families and friends all gathered to watch.
See, the Fourth is a great people-watching holiday, and it always gets me thinking about who I’m spending my own time with and whether or not I’m on the right path. I’ll see a couple kissing and wonder if I’m in the right relationship. Or I’ll see a big family cuddled up on a blanket together and wonder if I’m making the right choice in not having children.
Heavy, right? Well, that’s where the part where personal freedom comes in.
I do believe we all have the freedom to create the life we want — but sometimes you have to fight for it, and sometimes that takes courage. And sometimes you don’t even know what you want or where to begin.
This is why I love I Ching — it’s the ancient Chinese oracle with all the coin-tossing and the hexagrams, surely you’ve heard of it? If not, now’s the perfect time to check it out. You know, the Chinese invented fireworks, too — they must be onto something when it comes to illumination, both inside and out!
So how about we celebrate personal freedom on this Independence Day with a great big colorful burst of insight from the I Ching. That’s what’s I’m going to do! Happy Fourth of July!
