Uh-oh! I just realized I have a camping trip planned for Saturday, July 14 — the day Mercury goes retrograde — and I’m the one driving our gang to the lake!
Mercury goes retrograde about three or four times each year, and it’s never a good idea to be traveling during this time — especially if you’re heading into the wilderness. Just try getting AAA out to fix your tire on a Forest Service Road. Not gonna happen!
But I’m not going to let that stop me. I’m a semi-pro camper, after all! And I’m also an Astrology semi-pro, so I know just what to do: Prepare!
That’s the real key to managing Mercury Retrograde. All you have to do is study up on what kinds of things can go wrong, and then prepare some contingency plans to solve any problems that may arise.
Mercury Retrograde tends to cause problems with both travel and technology, so for this particular camping trip I’m going to make sure my car is checked out before we hit the road, and that I have plenty of spare tires, road flares, extra flashlight batteries and duct tape in the trunk.
I’ll also make sure to fully charge up my mobile phone before we leave (it has GPS we might need), and I’ll do my best not to drop it in the lake. And you know what else? If I do drop my phone in the lake, I’ll still have a good old fashioned map — because THAT is how a camping professional prepares for MRx.

It’s the Fourth of July here in the U.S., but to me the holiday is just as much about personal freedom as it is about the freedom of our country.
My mind always wanders when I’m looking up at the fireworks. My gaze goes back and forth between the bright bursts of color in the night sky and back down to the crowds of couples, families and friends all gathered to watch.
See, the Fourth is a great people-watching holiday, and it always gets me thinking about who I’m spending my own time with and whether or not I’m on the right path. I’ll see a couple kissing and wonder if I’m in the right relationship. Or I’ll see a big family cuddled up on a blanket together and wonder if I’m making the right choice in not having children.
Heavy, right? Well, that’s where the part where personal freedom comes in.
I do believe we all have the freedom to create the life we want — but sometimes you have to fight for it, and sometimes that takes courage. And sometimes you don’t even know what you want or where to begin.
This is why I love I Ching — it’s the ancient Chinese oracle with all the coin-tossing and the hexagrams, surely you’ve heard of it? If not, now’s the perfect time to check it out. You know, the Chinese invented fireworks, too — they must be onto something when it comes to illumination, both inside and out!
So how about we celebrate personal freedom on this Independence Day with a great big colorful burst of insight from the I Ching. That’s what’s I’m going to do! Happy Fourth of July!

Today’s Full Moon in Capricorn is hogging all the Astrology headlines, but in truth our best cosmic friend today is Mars in Libra.
Action planet Mars also moves into loving Libra on July 3, bringing a great deal of calm, peaceful energy to counteract the big disruptive bang we’re expecting from the Full Moon.
As I mentioned yesterday, today’s Full Moon in Capricorn is expected to challenge us with urgent energy, arguments and upset plans. But when Mars is in Libra, people are overall more calm and friendly, and much more thoughtful of others.
Mars in Libra is a great time for meeting people and doing new things, so hopefully this will balance out that Capricorn Full Moon and put a positive spin on your Fourth of July holiday plans!

I’m getting excited for tomorrow’s Full Moon in Capricorn — it’s going to pack a powerful punch that will make for some real Fourth of July fireworks, indeed!
The Full Moon in Capricorn actually takes place on Tuesday, July 3 — a day before the Fourth of July holiday — but we’ll still feel its effects a day later as we gather to celebrate Independence Day with family and friends.
That’s because this Full Moon is making some crazy aspects to Uranus and Pluto that are setting us up for some surprises.
We’ll probably be feeling a little rebellious and full of urgent energy the next couple of days, and hopefully this impulsiveness won’t lead to any trouble.
I’m planning to spend July 4 at a big day-long BBQ on the river, with lots of couples and kids and dogs running around. I’m hoping it all goes smoothly — meaning, no arguments or accidents.
Astrology advises we prepare for our plans to change at the last minute over the next couple of days, so I’m ready to roll with the punches. Bring it on, cosmos! Gimme whatcha got!
