discussing Park51 on the radio

If all goes to plan, I’ll be a guest on NPR Los Angeles’ To The Point program this afternoon, hosted by Warren Olney. The topic will be “Religious Tolerance and the Mosque at Ground Zero”. Should be fun.

UPDATE: Here’s the link to the show. How did I do?

Listening now, you’re doing a great job, but one note for the next time you are discussing this matter. With regards that there can be public limitations on the use of private property (i.e., building codes, historical preservation codes, etc.) is that such limitations cannot be based on discrimination against protected classes of people. If limitations are based on such discrimination, then the local municipality is violating the equal protection rights of the affected class of people.
This controversy reeks of discrimination. Somehow, because the perpetrators of the 9/11 attacks are Muslims, then a Muslim community near Ground Zero is wrong. This limitation is not based on a rational basis (such as size limitations or aesthetic principles) but merely an emotional and uninformed one.

I heard you on To The Point (on my iphone while commuting up the 280 in SF – I love technology!)… Anyway, you were terrific! Keep up the great work and I’m going to point some friends toward your blog and this site, beliefnet, looks very interesting.

I apologise, but, in my opinion, you commit an error. I can defend the position. Write to me in PM, we will discuss.
