I haven’t yet read the Dan Brown thriller Angels and Demons, so I was unaware that there was a muslim stereotype present in the book until I read this news report, which makes minor mention of some changes to the film’s plot:

Howard admitted he took “a lot more creative license” with this adaptation of a Brown thriller, changing both the ending and an assassin, who is Muslim in the book. They also toned done some of the book’s more explicit religious content, trying to make the film version more of a traditional thriller.

Hmm. I wonder why he changed it? For political correctness, or to avoid a potential issue like with Jewel of Medina where he is trying to avoid the imagined outrage of muslims? If the latter, I am severely disappointed – treating the muslim community mainstream like crybabies only encourages that vocal minority within it who actually are.

At any rate, I think I need to read the book now (and am frankly much less interested in the movie now, too)
