Can Spices Bolster Auto-Immune Health?

posted by Chattering Mind

A recent Third Age newsletter discusses the medicinal impact of common spices, citing Victoria Zak’s book “The Magic Teaspoon.” For instance:

* A diet rich in cayenne-spiced chili can protect against the formation of LDL (“bad”) cholesterol.

* When you add a teaspoon of cinnamon to contaminated apple juice, the E. coli can be reduced as much as 99.5 percent in three days.

* Oregano is an anti-oxidant.

* Rosemary has phytochemicals that can help in the treatment of arthritis.

* Turmeric is an antioxidant that can protect against cancer, lower cholesterol, reduce inflammation, and increase insulin sensitivity.

I use so many spices(from Frontier Herbs-organic) that sometimes I am eating more spice than the food I am cooking. Well Peter D’Adamo, the Blood Type Diet doc and my naturopathic physician, insists on using spices to keep the immune system doing what its supposed to do. Tasty food!

I use Simply Organic spices in my mostly organic satvic lactovegetarian diet. My food bill ranges $50-$75 a week for me when it could be cut in half if I bought regular commercial stuff, but the simple plain-jane diet I consume is helping me lose weight (so far 30 lbs. in 6 mos.), lower the already optimum readings of cholesterol and blood pressure I have, and is boosting my immune system. Better an ounce of prevention than a pound of cure. :P

CM's Final Posts: You Can Fill the Space
Eighteen years ago, I wrote an article for a magazine that got me called in for a taped interview with a Fox TV morning news anchor. Being an effective communicator and a skillful public speaker was a dream of mine at the time. And still is. After some 30 minutes of prep with the station's hair-and-

Websites to Visit, Blogs to Read
Here are some blogs and websites I like. It's not a complete list. But it's a start. The first is called New Moon Journal and it is written by Michele Bailey-Lessirard, a life coach, collage artist, and "shamanic astrologer." On the opening page of her site, you'll find a little slide show of her am

And Finally, This:
Place your burden at the feet of the Lord of the Universe who accomplishes everything. Remain all the time steadfast in the heart, in the Transcendental Absolute. God knows the past, present and future. He will determine the future for you and accomplish the work. What is to be done will be done at
