Meditation Timing Software

posted by chattering mind

Thanks to the excellent Buddhist blog Woodmore Village for alerting me to the fact that 21-year-old Buddhist blogger Will Henderson has developed a downloadable meditation software with timed silences, gongs, and even an ability to coordinate with iTunes! Henderson, a computer programmer who meditates, has his own blog on “programming, wondering, and living life.” So if you don’t want the software (free with optional opportunity for donation), browse through this sweet-smart fellow’s musings. Here, he explains how academic studies in India steered him toward his current Zen meditation practice. Going places is not his aim, but this young man is off and running on a tank that will always sustain him.

As I was reading Will’s blog I was wondering if he is even aware of how profound he can sometimes be: “Simplicity is what would happen if you weren’t busy making things simple.” “… while systems that help you to control your life are a good thing, they are not everything. They can help you have more time, have less to focus on, and get more done, but in the end, if you can’t control the simple impulse to do something, you can’t experience the relaxed, ready state of ‘mind like water’. Good energy. As you said, “sweet-smart”. BTW, I tried the meditation tool on a Windows and a Unix platform; flawless on Windows, not so much on Unix. Good for free; hope he’ll add an interval timer and loop option in future releases. While this seems contrary to the topic of meditation – but totally in sync with “the struggle to manage time and clutter” – Will mentioned something in his March 16 post, which is GTD, Getting Things Done, a system developed by David Allen. On Allen’s site you can find a teriffic list of, well, lists. I’ve used his packing list, and his list for “account numbers and PINS” provided the basis for our more comprehensive inventory of account numbers, PINS, policies, subscriptions, contact numbers and addresses, and beneficiaries. http://www.davidco.com/tips_tools.php >

CM's Final Posts: You Can Fill the Space
Eighteen years ago, I wrote an article for a magazine that got me called in for a taped interview with a Fox TV morning news anchor. Being an effective communicator and a skillful public speaker was a dream of mine at the time. And still is. After some 30 minutes of prep with the station's hair-and-

Websites to Visit, Blogs to Read
Here are some blogs and websites I like. It's not a complete list. But it's a start. The first is called New Moon Journal and it is written by Michele Bailey-Lessirard, a life coach, collage artist, and "shamanic astrologer." On the opening page of her site, you'll find a little slide show of her am

And Finally, This:
Place your burden at the feet of the Lord of the Universe who accomplishes everything. Remain all the time steadfast in the heart, in the Transcendental Absolute. God knows the past, present and future. He will determine the future for you and accomplish the work. What is to be done will be done at
