Here’s a Meditation to Help With Fear

posted by chattering mind

Beliefnet published an audio meditation about overcoming fear by Dr. Bernie Siegel today. You might find your square acre of peace by listening. Here’s an excerpt:

Come out once again into the garden and the sunshine, and walk over to the pond and look at your image. Become one with that image and who you are. When you feel like ‘one,’ then turn and begin your journey toward that beautiful light that you see off in the distance, and know that on your way you’ll meet many guides who can help you. All you have to do is ask and reach out, and they will be there.

Yesterday I recognized that my day was filling up with a lot of anxiety-induced busy-ness. But I didn’t slow down or stop it. I even kicked aside the Pema Choron book I’d pulled from the shelf! In the end I accomplished a lot, but the mindlessness of my activity left me void. So last night I melted easily into this meditation. I found consolation and rest, but not before some big, body wracking sobs. (and boy did I feel good afterwards!) True to Siegel’s words, this meditation helped reveal my fears. I cried for the destruction I believe is imminent, for my inability to protect everyone I love, for our children who have made a premature leap from innocence to knowing. Then I went to sleep. Today we’re playing water fairies in the pool and having Tastee-Freeze and cake for dinner. Take that, you terrorists.>

CM's Final Posts: You Can Fill the Space
Eighteen years ago, I wrote an article for a magazine that got me called in for a taped interview with a Fox TV morning news anchor. Being an effective communicator and a skillful public speaker was a dream of mine at the time. And still is. After some 30 minutes of prep with the station's hair-and-

Websites to Visit, Blogs to Read
Here are some blogs and websites I like. It's not a complete list. But it's a start. The first is called New Moon Journal and it is written by Michele Bailey-Lessirard, a life coach, collage artist, and "shamanic astrologer." On the opening page of her site, you'll find a little slide show of her am

And Finally, This:
Place your burden at the feet of the Lord of the Universe who accomplishes everything. Remain all the time steadfast in the heart, in the Transcendental Absolute. God knows the past, present and future. He will determine the future for you and accomplish the work. What is to be done will be done at
