It will be interesting to see how the new recently announced Charlie Rose-Gayle King tandem will perform on The Early Show on CBS when the duo debut Jan 9.

I’ve always liked Rose, but he’s just SO relaxed … how will that translate to morning TV when people respond the usually bright and cheery, if lightweight, Matt Lauer and Ann Curry on The Today Show?

Gayle King

As for Gayle King this is a HUGE step up. Yes, everyone knows she’s Oprah’s best friend but does that translate to wanting to watch her in the mornings on a major network show?

OWN, Oprah’s network, issued this statement about King leaving her show on the fledgling network. “We are so happy for Gayle’s opportunity of a lifetime,” the presidents of OWN, Sheri Salata and Erik Logan, said.

Translation: Oprah’s ticked and you wouldn’t want to be Steadman just about now.

Seriously, though, CBS has tried just about EVERYTHING to get some juice flowing for its morning show.

This has got to be the final attempt to draw some viewers away from NBC, ABC, FOX,  and all the other morning shows out there.

I thought the CBS Morning Show, like a breakfast item, was TOAST before.

But it keeps trying to pull us [viewers] in, to use an old quote from a famous movie.

My prediction, to quote Mr. T from Rocky: “Pain” … that is, more pain for CBS as the pairing doesn’t make a dent or a difference in the morning landscape.
