Jim Carrey is one of the few people in the world that can make you laugh without doing much of anything.

That was true Thursday on The Today Show when Carrey promoted his new film Mr. Poppers Penguins.

He mugged for newscaster Natalie Morales, yukked it up with fans and even let Matt Lauer ride his back … don’t ask!

Carrey can even  star in a PG flick, that  for you who don’t recall stands for “Parental Guidance suggested”.

I know most people know that, but it’s just so rare that PG movies are made these days it had to be emphasized.

Mr. Poppers Penguins looks cute, sweet and funny though some reviews knock it for a familiar plot.

Carrey’s turn as the lead character in another PG flick, A Christmas Carol, deserved  kudos as he exercised his dramatic acting chops in a very familiar plot.

He was superb in the role as Ebenezer Scrooge, taking it on with the seriousness and humility the classic movie deserves.

PG movies that families can attend without worrying about foul language and inappropriate behavior are all too rare.

Successful ones even more so.

Carrey on Jim … Carrey on.
