“I want to thank the Lord, for he got me here,” said Scotty McCreery after winning this season’s American Idol.

Good for him, giving props where they should go in the opinion of many … to the Lord.

His fans who packed the RBC Center in Raleigh, N.C., near his hometown of Garner had it right too … in my opinion.

“He’s not afraid to praise the Lord, that’s the main thing,” said one adoring fan in an interview on FOX50.

He, as in Jesus Christ, IS the main thing and a the best reason to end American Idol-izing after a long, impressive run.

Here in one short Bible phrase, is why:

Isa 42:8 (NIV) “I am the Lord; that is my name! I will not give my glory to another or my praise to idols.”

While American Idol may seem nice and sweet most of the time, anything that detracts from Jesus being our one TRUE and ONLY idol can be dangerous.

I don’t mean to come off as heavy-handed because I have to check myself here too.

As someone who lives within an hour of the RBC Center would I rush there and yell and scream for the Lord if I heard He was there?

Or would I worry about the gas money, traffic or a program on TV I’d risk missing?

I’d like to think I would make the right choice, and I am sure many of you would too.

Is Jesus Christ my idol? Is He yours?
