Sick Boy Receives Kindness from the Internet

When a mother shared on the website Reddit about the hardships her son was facing while suffering from an autoimmune disease, a stranger decided to give the boy some kindness.  The mother had shared that she was disappointed with the Harry Potter section of Universal Studios theme park, specifically with how the small size of the shops made it impossible for her son to get the chocolate frog he wanted.  When redditor TheAdster read this story, she decided to send the boy a package giving him the wizarding magic Universal Studios couldn’t give him.

I love seeing his happy face. I don't get to see it very often. Thank you so much!

From the mom: “I cannot say how much getting this box today meant to my son. He has had a really difficult couple of months with his disease. His immune system is depressed, he had a seizure last month, his other symptoms have him miserable and angry, unable to make it through a day without tears and frustrations. It breaks our hearts. Today was especially difficult. My husband has been in the hospital for the last couple days, and really ill for days before that, and the loss of routine was hard on him. He has had a doubly hard time focusing and was doing writing tests at school, and he could barely hold his pencil. Then we went to a local twilight egg hunt tonight and he ended up getting hurt, and came home sad. So to go on a late night run to the mailbox, and having the fun and suprise of a package addressed from “HOGWARTS SCHOOL” I just can’t tell you. He grinned from ear to ear. We sat in the floor, his siblings behind me, not jealous at all, just as happy as me to see him smile. He ooohed and aahed over every thing in the box, ran upstairs to my husband who had just been discharged home and showed him everything. They both thought the letter was super cool. He carefully opened the frog box to save, and then bit the legs off the frog so it couldn’t hop away, he said.

I cannot tell you how much something like this means to him, and to the rest of us. He tries so hard every day, and it just seems like it never gets better for him sometimes. He went to bed earlier, smiling and hugging his little box and fell asleep without any of the meds he usually needs to shut off the twitching and tourettes that comes with his disease.

You are my hero tonight, /u/TheAdster !”
