My last two days were busy with packing and moving.  Again.  For the second time in one month. But this time since I hadn’t actually unpacked much from the last move (I had been traveling,) it wasn’t quite as strenuous.  I was able to pack a little, then take a break, pack a little, then take a break.  A few times I needed a boost to my energy and so I took a walk.  That was a wise decision because I was blessed repeatedly with the sight and sound of hummingbirds.

I didn’t expect there to be so many in this desert environment.  I thought they would need or want more color, more flowers.  But they seem to be quite happy here living amongst the pinon trees and cacti.  I hear them often, but sometimes it’s hard to catch sight of them because they move so fast.

They delight me.  I’ve always loved hummingbirds.  Every encounter is a thrill for me. I absolutely love it when they hover in front of me.  I love catching them sitting upon a tree branch.  I also adore seeing them zip around.  I love watching their acrobatics.  The other day I watched entranced as one zoomed straight up into the air and then zoomed down and then zoomed way up and then zoomed down again.  It was like she was on her own little carnival ride and all she needed was her own amazing little wings.

I know hummingbirds are associated with love, joy, and beauty, but I decided to do some research and find out what else they represented.  Here is what I found:

Hummingbird’s message is adaptability in life’s many situations and being able to “roll with the punches.” If you have hummingbird medicine, you adapt easily to whatever situation you may find yourself in and make the most of your new circumstances. You don’t waste time looking back and wishing for “what was” for you are concerned with making the most of “what is.” http://mrkay.org/projects/totems/hummer.htm and http://www.birdclan.org/hummingbird.html

What a welcome message! If Hummingbird is trying to tell me that I too have the ability to adapt to new circumstances and situations, I am very, very happy to hear it!

How do you handle new situations and circumstances?  What brings you joy?  What delights you?  Do you bless and thank the beauty you find in your life?  Do you look for moments of magic and sweetness?  Are you friends with creatures large and small?

I wish you JOY in your life!  May you find beauty and magic!  May you be delighted by the gifts around you.

What are you grateful for today?

I am grateful for the blessing of hummingbirds.
