So Who Am I and Why Should You Follow Me?

It occurred to me that you might want to know who I am and where I’m going before you decide to follow me.  That’s only reasonable!

I’m a certified weight loss advisor through Proevity, a group which provides continuing education for doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals. I’m not one of those folks — in fact, I took my first Proevity course by accident.  (Remind me to tell you that story one of these days.)  I’ve learned a lot of things from them about how our bodies work — and was surprised to find out that I had been doing this weight loss business all wrong.

That was a BIG surprise, because I am an accomplished dieter. I have been on every diet, fad or otherwise, since 1973.  I’ve recently learned some secrets to getting my body to work with me instead of against me.   I’ll be sharing those secrets with you, as well as giving you ample servings of encouragement, and some really good recipes.

Have you heard of the glycemic index?  You will!  The new diets are moving away from low fat/low calorie/high fail and embracing the plan that works.  I’ll have lots to tell you about that, too.

And something I guarantee you will hear from me often: The people who are on TV are not real and you do NOT have to look like them to be a worthwhile person.  In fact, the purpose for learning a healthier eating style is just that  – health. You want to be lean enough to be strong and to live life to the fullest.

As for me — I have not lost 100 lbs. I am not 100 lbs. overweight,  nor do I currently weigh 100 lbs.   I do not look like a fashion model. In fact, I’m not even at my goal weight yet.  I’m a real person — just like you. We will be doing this journey together and encouraging each other as we go.

I do the things I’m going to be telling you about — and I feel great!  I have more energy than people far younger than I am — which is 57.  I also managed to avoid diabetes although I was diagnosed at one time with metabolic syndrome, which is pre-diabetes.  I am seldom ill.  (Okay, that’s an invitation for the stomach flu!  Seriously though, I usually have a much higher state of health than my peers.)  I don’t just feel “not bad” but I feel great on a regular basis!

And I want you to feel that way, too.  You have lots of living to do and I want you to have fun living it.  My life matters and I wake up every morning ready to jump into it. You can have the same experience.

And you, too, can have a real life and a reason for living.  Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life. No man cometh to the father, but by me.” (John 14:6)  Guess we might as well get it settled now.  I’m not going to tell you to seek a “higher power” or to “look inside yourself” for a god. I believe with my whole heart  that Jesus is God and the only One there is.  You don’t have to agree with me, but He is the One who made me and called me and He’s the One I serve.  I can’t help talking about Him who is not just part of my life — but my LIFE!  I will cheerfully steer the blog away from politics and other controversial subjects — but this one is non-negotiable.

If you would like to know more about Him — and about what I believe, here is a link: Click here to see my message about God.

I’m here for you!  Let me know if you have questions or if I can be of help to you in anyway.

Recipe Day -- Good-For-You Chocolate Cake
I looked at the recipe in disbelief.  NINE eggs? Surely that was a misprint.  Only 3/4 cup flour in a cake?  Not likely.  As I studied about coconut flour, though, I saw that, yes, it does take that many eggs to make a successful cake with this healthy type of flour, and it takes a much smaller

Climbing Into Jesus' Wheelbarrow
Once there was a famous tight-rope walker.  He stood before a huge crowd by Niagara Falls, preparing to do his most daring feat. “How many of you believe that I can walk across Niagara Falls on this tightrope?” he asked the people gathered there. “We believe you can do it!” they shout

How Do You Know When to Stop Eating?
“We asked 150 Parisians how they knew they were through with dinner,” food psychologist Brian Wansink, PhD, said.  “They said, ‘When we’re full.’  When we asked 150 Chicagoans that they said, ‘When the plate is empty.’” * No wonder 2/3 of American adults are overweight and hal
