Stay Free!

Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.  Gal. 5:1

It’s Independence Day!  On this day my readers who are in the U.S. celebrate our freedom as a nation and thank God for that liberty!

All of us who are citizens of God’s kingdom have reason to celebrate freedom, too.  Jesus, by His death, has set us free from the bondage of our sins.

We are also free from the addictions and habits that held us back for so long.  But that doesn’t mean we aren’t in danger of slipping back into slavery.  Many sneaky things can lull us into servitude. We can be enslaved by our appetite for food, and even by a passion for fitness that consumes our lives and leaves no time or energy for other people — or for our God.

That’s why this verse says, “You are free. Don’t get tangled up in those chains again!”

Rejoice in freedom — and stay free!

Eating to live and living for Christ,

Susan Jordan Brown
