The Swiss have just denied the U.S. government’s request to extradite Oscar-winning filmmaker and accused child rapist Roman Polanski, apparently on a legal technicality.

The Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests (SNAP) has weighed in, denouncing the decision:

This is a travesty. Our hearts go out to anyone who was hurt by Polanski and to the tens of thousands of sexual assault victims whose perpetrators escaped justice by political clout, shrewd maneuvering or by “running out the clock” on the statute of limitations. The next time someone questions a rape or child sex abuse victim for not reporting the crime, or reporting months or years later, remember Polanski’s crime, and how he got off scot-free despite his heinous sex offense against a girl.
