What do John L. Perry, Jim DeMint, Wiley Drake, Steven Anderson, and the prominent conservative news site, NewsMax, have in common.  A hatred for democracy when they lose is a start.  The political disease that calls itself modern
conservatism is increasingly showing its colors.  And it
behooves us Pagans to keep our eyes open.

In news media sponsored by the Republican National
Committee

on Newsmax John L. Perry spoke happily of the good things that would come from
a military coup taking over the United States.  Nothing else would really do, he suggested.  Never mentioned was that in democracies
we have elections to accomplish such tasks – and we have one scheduled next
year.

When
for some reason people objected, Newsmax took it down, identifying Perry as an
unpaid blogger,” l
Somehow they never mentioned he has regular column for about ten years and had
been a former editor
of the site from 1999 to 2001.
Classy.

Newsmax has done all it can to destroy the evidence, but you can see the actual article by going here and downloading a PDF

And now, nationally recognized “Christian” pastors have conducted
prayers
for God to kill Barack Obama.  The message of Jesus was given an
interesting touch by Rev. Steven Anderson:

you have probably never heard a
sermon like this before. Actually, you probably have if you have been coming to
church here for a while. But you know what? Here is my sermon, why I hate
Barack Obama. That’s my sermon tonight, because Barack Obama is coming to town
tomorrow morning.

Rev.
Wiley Drake, Former Vice President of the Southern Baptist Convention,
similarly demonstrated devotion to democracy and Christian love. My thanks to Cheryl for bringing these lunatics to my attention.

In the midst of all this South Carolina Senator Jim DeMint
happily planned to travel to Honduras, to meet with the dictator who used a
coup to oust their elected President.
DeMint supported the coup in June.

The US has yet to recognize the criminal regime, civil liberties such as
freedom of the press have yet to be restored, though the coup happened quite
some time ago, and our foreign policy disapproves of overthrowing elected
leaders.  None of which matters to
deMint. When he visits perhaps he’s hoping to pick up some pointers.

Once they started losing elections, the conservative love of democracy
and our constitution has soured.
They have even turned to hating America as a whle, as when so many
cheered Chicago not getting a chance to host the 2012 Olympics. Increasingly
they are preaching violence and revolution.

It’s hard now to imagine conservatives vehemently attacked the Dixie
Chicks for disloyalty because they dared admit they did not like Bush II.  But they did.
