When I first began my spiritual explorations one of my mentors told me praying was talking to God and meditation was getting quiet enough to listen. He went on to tell me that if I didn’t get still I would never hear the wisdom, guidance or feel the love of the divine.
I have been meditating for almost thirty years and teaching people how to meditate for almost twenty. It really is easy, it just takes a bit of practice and some dedication. I suggest starting by taking ten minutes each day. It helps to meditate at the same time everyday until it becomes a regular part of your schedule.
There are so many myths about meditation. It really is very easy. Sit comfortably and focus your attention on your breath. Your mind will wander and then when you notice you are thinking you gently and lovingly bring your attention back to your breath. After a little bit of practice your mind will quiet and after ten minutes of meditation you will be amazed at how much more peaceful you feel the rest of the day.
If you have a hard time quieting your mind you can repeat a short prayer over and over again. You can read a short passage from a spiritual book before you sit in meditation and then focus your attention on that passage. Meditating is a wonderful way to begin listening to the angels.
