There are lots of news stories, books, web sites and blogs about physical fitness. I was excited when I found out March was Spiritual Fitness month. It is easy to tell if we are physical fit or not but how do we know if we are spiritually fit or not?

I am sure there as many different definitions of spiritual fitness as there are religions and spiritual practices. To me one of the obvious measures of spiritual fitness is ones sense of connection to the divine, whatever a person’s definition is.

In order to remain physically fit we must exercise regularly so it makes sense the same is true of remaining spiritually fit.

I suggest people create what I call bookends. Something you do every morning and every night to help you remain spiritual fit. I suggest you make your bookends manageable, nurturing and supportive. Some people make them so overwhelming they are doomed to fail. Make sure you set yourself up for success, do them daily and allow your spirituality to support you and improve the quality of your life.

Here is a short list of suggestions:

Pray
Meditate
Journal
Read a spiritual book
Call upon the angels
Be of church service
Go to a service
Make a gratitude list
Spend time in nature
Express your love
Talk to a spiritual adviser
Practice mindfulness
Walk a labyrinth
Care for an animal or another person
Love, just love

What do you do to remain spiritually fit?

With love and aloha,
Susan
