The Law of Attraction, which focuses in on the ability to attract positive energy from the world around you by being positive yourself, can be used in all types of recovery from addiction. “The Law of Sobriety”, my book for alcohol and drug addiction recovery is based on the success that I have experienced in my life and in working with real people with addictions. What I have found through writing the book is that all addiction recovery can be enhanced by understanding just how important thoughts are in changing behavior.

Food addiction is a real concern and a real addiction. People with food addictions often have huge amounts of guilt, fear and shame because of their eating patterns and their health. They tend see themselves as overweight, unhealthy and having low levels of will power and self-control. So their mental picture of themselves is all based on negativity. Their internal monologue would sound like a litany of failures including, “I can’t lose weight; I can’t stay on a diet; I’m not a good person; I have no self-control; I will never have anyone that loves me.” In time this constant repetition of negativity creates reality and you don’t lose weight; don’t stay on diets; don’t make health food choices and don’t find anyone to share your life with.

Instead of looping that negative movie in your mind, use the Law of Attraction and your positive energy to bring things into your life that will support your weight loss and lifestyle changes. This is something that you can start immediately by simply developing positive statements that will replace that negative soundtrack in your head. A few samples of positive statements you can repeat to yourself to start bringing more positive energy and positive changes in your life include:

  • I can and will make healthy choices about what I eat.
  • I will be successful in reaching my weight loss and health short and long term goals.
  • I have joy in my life and I will do what brings me joy on a daily basis.
  • Thank you for the progress that I have made in my weight loss goals and for the progress that I will make today and each day from now on.
