My friend, General Charles C. “Hondo” Campbell, retired last year from the Army.  He was charged as his last duty before his retirement to investigate the battle of Wanat and report his findings with respect to the conduct of various officers who were involved in that battle.  Fen’s Thoughts Blog has posted an article, “Hondo’s Parting Gift.”  Take a few minutes to read the blog.  There has been much controversy surrounding the Wanat battle.  Fen makes the following assessment of ‘Hondo’s Gift:’ “General Campbell’s report to Secretary McHugh is a very important first step toward creating command climates based upon the mission, the circumstance, commander’s intent and the expected outcome.”  Hopefully, future military leaders will take the findings of this report into account when planning military strategy.
