Indeed, the beast IS out there. Its name is Superstition.

Ah, yes, the beast is out there somewhere but it will all be in God's time....and as Christians we go about our days in the peaceful knowledge that as believers and doers of the Word and followers of Him we are secure in whatever happens whenever it happens.

I have to agree with you, michigan. The when or if does not matter. It is the here and now. If we are not doing God's will now, scrambling to do it when the "end is near" won't mean much. And no one can say for sure when it will all end, if it does, or how and when Christ will return and what manner. I remember when everyone was so hyped up about the Y2K thing, I had co-workers and friends who had actually stockpiled as though a major hurricane was coming. When nothing happened at 12:01 Jan 1 2001, I said "That's it?" We cannot live our lives in the shadow of obscure prophecies and panic about numbers and dates. Live now, do Gods work now. Jesus said that tommorow has its own worries sufficient for itself.

"Sol will never nova. it is not massive enough."
You mean, Sol will never SUPERNOVA. A nova is just where a star blows off its outer layers. Sol WILL do that.
My religion (Judaism) does not predict anything special on 06-06-06. To us, it is just the 10th of Sivan, 5766.

You must be an Episcopalian, Michigan, because you are on the rebel side of the line. I was an Anglican more than twentyfive years ago, being raised that way, but I am a Buddhist now. Paradoxically I have more respect for the Abrahamic traditions than I did before I became a Buddhist. In a Buddhist perspective, thare is no beginning and end, no Aleph and Omega, just recurrent cycles, though to be charitable, the beginning and end could represent in an Abrahamic context, the end of their paticular cycle. Eponymous Jesus was, I suppose, a Bodhisattva. Buddhism is an atheistic religion like Islam. "There is no God, there is just Allah". Allah is the Buddha nature of supreme intelligence sustaining the Universe. "Logos" in Greek.

Most importantly: it does not matter when the world will end, or when Christ Jesus comes. What is important: What did YOU do with YOUR life NOW? Did YOU feed the hungry? Did YOU clothe the naked? Did YOU house the homeless? It does not matter if you're "saved" or "elect" or can define the hypostatic union and the triune ontology: did YOU act like Jesus? Did you love people? which means, did you feed/house/care for/be compassionate towards/ people? Even if they were unlovely and unpleasant and mean and rude and ungrateful?

remember, some of the most ancient Greek texts give 616 instead of 666 ... and all of this numerological "interpretation" comes from an age when there was no difference between numbers and letters, for example alpha/alef = 1, beta/beth = 2, gamma/ghimel = 3, etc. You have to translate the numbers and the words and the alphabet! Unless you have all 3 correct, you're wrong!

"When secular people warn of global warming, environmental disaster, nuclear war, plagues, bird flu, tsunamis, it's ok. Secular people admire the same statement if made by a secular source, but laugh at it if made by a religous source."

Feel free to laugh at both. It's all just fear-mongering for a purpose. In the case of the religious, it's a way to increase church attendance. In the case of secular Noahs, it's an attempt to increase funding for their particular pet project.

If modern hearers are more likely to give credence to secular sources, maybe that's because the secular priesthood bases its claims on "facts and figure" (real or imagined) whereas religion is based on what some guy in sandals heard while hiding out in a cave.

I like the Carl Sagan quote, however he was incorrect. Sol will never nova. it is not massive enough. However, It will grow into a red giant and engulf the Earth after it has burned most of it's hydrogen. It will be cooler and it will reach a bit past Mars, gobbling up the planets as it grows. Once the hydrogen is gone it will begin burning it's helium and will shrink back down to much smaller size that it is now and then simply go dark.
This junk about 06-06-06 is just silly. C'mon people get a grip. This date has happened before:
06-06-1906, 1806, 1706, 1606...etc.
