What do you believe?

I was always of the impression that the number 666 was a coded reference to a particular Roman Emperor long since decease as is the relavance of much of Revelation.

Perhaps we don't know it because the Matrix has changed the program before we realized that it all disappeared.

Nor the belief-bound prognostigations of those who adhere to the haunted-house theory of the cosmos.

There are a whole lot of things rather more close at hand that could see off our tenure on this planet, so I wouldn't be too concerned about cosmic events and influences billions of light years away.

It is a comforting picture that Denisemac paints, but an illusory one.
There is not a prophecy in the Bible that is not disputed, and some that have proven palpably false.
Jesus predicted his return in some detail. The fact that his prediction failed caused some initial discomfort for the early church, but they quickly set about reationalising it.

I guess our gazing longingly to the skies for salvation excuses us from assuming the responsibility of cleaning up our own mess, much of it the result of nonsense akin to the subject of this message board.

The supermassive black hole believed to lie in the heart of our galaxy is quiescent, and thus our galaxy is normal rather than active. Active galaxies were more common early in the universe, when there was more fuel available to feed black holes, which is why quasars represent the most distant objects in the universe. Active galaxies tend to settle down to normal galaxies with quiescent black holes when the fuel feeding the black hole becomes exhausted; the process is not known to go in the other direction, so far as I know.

But let's stick to the topic here. No one knows what 666 was really supposed to mean; that is obvious or Christians wouldn't be looking all over the place for clues and signs and arcane numerological explanations. And so what? Are you going to lead your life differently if you decide that 666 really means this rather than that?
It's ironic - The same Christians who are outraged over The DaVinci Code are frantically trying to decipher the Revelation Code.

I just figured it out--the world did end and everyone reading this is just dreaming. The world continued in a dream after 06/06/06. So those that thought the revelation was true were right, the ones that doubted don't realize it because they are continuing on in a dream and are now dead. Truly amazing that the revelation was true. You can believe anything and make it make sense to some folks.

I love it. It's not actually dangerous but it's delightfully creepy enough to be entertaining. I had a blast all day being paranoid. =D

nr; that's kinda the point of the whole article, isn't it? That EVERYONE - Christians or otherwise - have more important things to worry about than random occurrences of the number 666.

Uh oh - there it is ... 666. I must be the beast or something.

This whole discussion bothers me. We survived all of June, 66 and the entire year 666, did we not? Don't Christians have more important things to worry about, like compassion, peace and justice?

There is a NOVA special that discusses the fact that this and other galaxies appear to have large black holes at the cores of them, and that huge bursts of energy come from galaxies when these normally quiescent black holes feed, due to the stars releasing energy as the black hole tears them apart with tidal forces. Quasars, with massive radiation bursts seem to be just such galaxies.

The documentary also discussed the possible cyclic nature of these events, and the possibility that such radiation bursts could make impact on planets in their path.

If such an event occured, it would not destroy the earth, but could impact the viability of life exposed to that radiation. The end of life here might not require a red giant sun to give us need for 5 billion psf sunblock.

the mytic images given such as the beasts are used as metaphors. Trees represent people of countries, hills represent government and so forth. Compare them to times past and you will see we are closing in on these prophecies but not all have been fullfilled. For we know not the day. But this day brings happiness not fear. For it is the return of Jesus and the power restored to God and his government on this earth. No more tears no my pain, everyone will know true unjudgmental love and peace for ever more.
