And that's interesting, too, isn't it? Because Homo sapiens is by definition a scavenger, and always has been. LOL

It is not religous as much as cultural, which is why religions that are associated within the same geographical regions tend to have the same taboos or attitudes.
It is entirely possible that dogs were considered unclean due to the fact that they will quite willingly do things that humans find digusting- rumaging through and eating trash and rotten food, eating and/or rolling in fecal matter, and eating vomit. Pigs were probably considered unclean due to trichinosis as well as the eating of rubbish. Just as crows and ravens are considered evil within the western cultures due to the fact that they are scavengers and would collect around battlefields to eat the dead.

>>>Why are some animals considered "unclean" in certain religions? If someone answers saying "God declared it so" then still, why?<<<
Alot of things that people claim to be said by God simply never was said by God. It is like in the old testament God supposedly says that He savors the smell of the burnt offerings (innocent animals)rising to Him from the altar. I can't accept that for a split second.
Fabels also get mixed in with genuine Divine revelations and get considered revelations themselves. Like in India there is a story of of a cow dying(murdered?) and the blood of that cow ran into the earth and that it colored all the redish vegetables. Therefore some people will not eat beets, carrots, tomateos etc. THEY CONSIDER IT THE SAME AS EATTING COW FLESH.
As far as pigs go in India especially rural India, pigs are the sanitation system. They wander all over eatting stool from human and animals alike. When a pig comes wandering through a bazaar all the people scatter so it won't touch them. I also jumped fast. Those things are just nasty inside and out from the human perspective. Yet still there is a class of people that grab them up and eat them. Uggggh
But from the spiritual perspective all souls are equal irregardless of their station in this life. Now if we can glimpse this much of spiritual life we must assume God can also. All souls are His offspring and he loves the soul in that nasty pig as much as ours. The uncleanliness is from the human perspective. It is not a part of the eternal religion but it may be simply good hygiene.
Another example of this relativity is less graphic then the pigs liking human waste as food. The old Ayurvedic way of diagnosing diabetes was to pee on the ground and see if ants were attracted to it. If there was excess sugar in the urine the ants would go for it.
I base my AR perspective on the unity of all souls. All this "God said we could eat meat" we hear just serves to piss me off.
