I feel embarrassed to admit it, but I find these books really moving. Do you think this guy Canfield is exploiting his contributors (I don't think he pays them) or giving them an outlet to share with others?

I love the Chicken Soup books too. I have all the Teen ones. About Canfield, I think the latter is correct. I wouldn't care if I got paid, I'd just be glad to have a story in print that could inspire others in the same situation.

I got the first Teen one, and it's OK - some of the poems are good. Overall, none of them really inspire me - I'm really skeptical of the authors' intentions. After all, they made over a dozen of these books, not to mention calendars, journals, etc. Do you really think they care about much of anything except the money?

I don't know about the Chicken Soup books, specifically, but I've had a poem published in a book from another series within the same company. I was paid for this, plus I was permitted to retain my rights to resell the work elsewhere. I trust the policies are similar for the actual Chicken Soup series, since they are within the same company.
