Friends--I was thinking about all the different people who post on this board--and I started to wonder--
Why do we meditate?
I suspect that we have different reasons for meditating--all of them valid.
It would be interesting to talk about all the different reasons we all meditate.

I think that meditation is the freespirit activity of the mind in connection with all parts of our "being".
The more free my spirit is, the more I can experience meditation at the level that is most enjoyable. If I am following "rules" of any kind, I personally will not get any enjoyment in the love of meditation.
Personally, I meditate the best when I am intune with my spirit.
I also enjoy beginning meditation through music of my own that is different all the time.
What is my purpose for meditation? To be free.

I meditate to keep me sane. If I don't clear my mind of all the built up clutter of the day it gets so jumbled that a normal thought can not make it's way through without stepping on something else and possibly squashing something of importance, and you never get to see what the floor looks like! So, like with my sons toys that end up scattered all over the living room, it needs "red up" (as we say here in west Pennsylvania...short for "ready up") the mess and leave a nice, cozy, organized atmosphere to chill out in. Sort of like how you have to defragment your computer and clean out the extra, unnecessary files once in awhile.

I meditate to know what is Real. Life is filtered and ordered by expectations: meditation is setting aside all expectations, all filters, simply being aware - being established in that awareness.
