Just as other boards here have many different views held by the posters, you may not get the best advice or even consistent advice, but we are a fairly opne bunch.
Discalimer: I am NOT a member of the CofC, but I attend there more often these days than I do my church, The Church of Jesus Christ---also a BoM/Bible christian church. I love them. They are so open minded in general that it is like a breath of fresh air.
That strength is also their greatest weakness: they can get a little too liberal and off-base.
I'd rather deal with that than the "my way or the highway" mentality of some groups.
Ok, enough background about me.
First, you must understand that the Community of Christ and the LDS church have over 160 years of separation. That is about 10 times as much time as the were one faith (along with The Church of Jesus Christ, the Church opf Jesus Christ (Cutlerite), The Church of Christ (Temple Lot), the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Strangite) and Lyman Wright' group, to mention a few churches of the dispersion of the saints at the fall of Nauvoo).
That means if you are looking for a TWIN of the LDS church, you will NOT find it in the Community.
They have their own proud heritage.
If you want to UNDERSTAND them, do NOT count on LDS accounts and hearsay because they do not fairly decribe the Community of Christ. I would not use Community of Christ sources to understand the LDS either.
If you want a Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, Bible Christian church that has found a new purpose in recent years, this is the church to consider.
But don't expect the same kind of temples as the LDS. The Community follows the Kirtland temple pattern wherein the building is multi-purpose and used for various ministries of the church.
If you are still interested after making those mental adjustments, then this church may be for you.

thankyou. I hardly attend the LDS church since being a member in 2003.I know ea. church is different, but was amazed with them not being "apart" of LDS how both still use the same teachings as of books. I read up after posting about them...

They use the same books, sort of...the Book of Mormon from each says the same thing unless you read the chapter headers and foot notes. Verse numbers are differetn also. The LDS have unique interpretations of a number of Book of Mormon themes vs. the Community of Christ. The Community of Christ is more mainstream than the LDS.
The Doctrine and Covenants used by the two are significantly different.
