The purpose of this thread is to invite earnest questions about Christian Science.
Since this is an open board, you are requested to let REPLIES be posted only by Christian Scientists who are members of The Mother Church a branch church.
This thread is now open for your questions about the healing Science of Christ discovered by Mary Baker Eddy and named Christian Science.

Hi, I admit I know little about Christian Science, but I am interested in learning about your beliefs. I know that you talk about a book written by Mary Baker Eddy called "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures". Is this book the basis of what your church believes? Is it treated as an addition to the Bible or an interpretation of it? Did Mary Baker Eddy write other books as well? Obviously I have never read the book in question, but I am curious as to what it teaches. Besides your belief about not using doctors (What is this based on? I read another post that mentioned a Christian Science nurse- What is her/his??? roll? Do you have Christian Science doctors as well?) What other beliefs set your church apart? I look foward to gaining a better understanding of your faith.

geo42, hello again.
You wrote:

In 1866, Mary Baker Eddy was healed of injuries thought too serious for her to recover. In her words: "My immediate recovery from the effects of an injury caused by an accident, an injury that neither medicine not surgery could reach, was the falling apple that led me to the discovery how to be well myself, and how to make others so" (Retrospection and Introspection, p.24)
Following this healing, she prayerfully studied the Bible in order to understand how she was healed and came to understand (discover) the scientific spiritual healing system that she named Christian Science. By 1875, Mary Baker Eddy had written her understanding and the book, Science and Health was published.
Mrs. Eddy thought that all, regardless of religious affiliation, would quickly accept her discovery. This did not happen and the Church of Christ, Scientist was established. This church has no clergy. The pastor of the Church of Christ, Scientist is: The Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. The latter is the textbook of Christian Science and flows from her spiritual understanding of the Bible. Together, the Bible and the CS textbook form the foundation of Christian Science. Does this shed some light?
geo43, FYI, all Christian Science Reading Rooms as well as most major booksellers offer Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures published by the CS Publishing Society for sale. It is also available on the web at www.tfccs.com.
You are encouraged to read it and learn first hand. Thank you for the question.

geo42, you also asked:
"Did Mary Baker Eddy write other books as well? "
Yes. A compilation of her other works is titled: Prose Works. It is available also at any CS Reading Room to read, borrow or purchase. Prose Works is also available from the Christian Science Publishing Society website: www.csps.com.
Also available are articles and editorials by Mrs. Eddy appearing in the early periodicals of the CS Publishing Society. These periodicals are available in bound form in most CS Reading Rooms.
