I, among many, have been hugely impressed by the bravery of the fire fighters courageously battling the mayhem and choas. I have composed this poem as a tribute to them.

Heroes All

Through unforgiving flame and unremitting smoke
The fire fighters hurry towards the intimidating choas.
The once familiar landscape, horribly despoiled,
A new territory emerges, alien and hostile.
Twisted metal and dusty rubble lie in heaps
Mocking the space where buildings stood proud against the skyline.
Unheeding, they toil unceasingly day and night
In a superhuman effort to rescue a dwindling number of survivors,
And the heart breaking task of removing the dead.
Bravely they struggle on through asphyxiating dust
Doggedly determined to see the job through.
Courageous to a fault, the fire fighters stand proud.
In the eyes of the World, HEROES ALL.

I see a huge irony. People gave their lives killing people, thinking themselves heros. They are not.
People gave their lives saving people. They did not think themselves to be heros, yet they are great heros.

Meek and Humble,

That is a really good point you are making. Assuming the hereafter is either celestial paradise or barbecue time, it is a pity that the terrorists do not realise that instead of being martyrs and going straight to Heaven, they are more likely to be heading for the eternal flames. Whereas the fire fighters certainly deserve to be in Heaven, whatever the definition of that is.
