I like folk magick, because it is simple, easy, and adds to the atmosphere of my humble abode. It's something I think nearly everyone does, but not everyone is conscious of doing it.
It is these small magics, rather than the big flashy ones that build up goodwill in a home and a community. Small, simple rituals- from putting up a corn dolly to laying out a welcome mat- are the things that add richness to our lives.
I have a corn dolly that was given to me in England. That, along with a ceramic plaque I bought 21 years ago that says "This Mess Is A Place" are two things that are hand carried with me when I have to move. The plaque is the last thing down in the old home, and the first thing up in the new. Once, I had to rescue it from the hands of an overzealous mover. When I explained its purpose, he understood, even though he was German.
So, what little goodies and rituals fill out your lives and homes. Do you hang horseshoes points up or points down? Do you buy new brooms and mops for your new home, or bring the old ones with you? Does your car have a name? Your computer?
I think this board will be a warm, enjoyable place to share little Magickal bits. I am looking forward to learning.

First of all, I love your plaque.. but I didn't understand what you said it's "purpose" was except to bring a smile.
When I was 5, my Mom, Dad & Uncle decided on the spur of the moment to drive from our home in northern New Jersey to St. Augustine, Florida to visit my other Uncle at college. It must have been around 9 pm when they bundled me into the car & off we all went. (It was 1974, and I can't even begin to tell you how many times we heard "Thank God I'm a Country Boy" on the radio once we got south of the Mason-Dixon Line.) Anyway, while there, they bought me a horseshoe at a blacksmith's shop. The blacksmith hammered (branded? I don't know the correct term for what he did, but you get the idea) my name onto it (well, sort of my name... no one calls me "Laurie" anymore without being beaten...) Anyway, as a result, it MUST be hung pointing up - to hold all of the luck - or else the "LAURIE" would be upside down.

My First car was "Puddle Jumper" with a glow in the dark skull on the dashboard named "Mr Brownstone" (after the Guns and Roses song)
My computer is named Vladkylry. and my external hard drive is Phoenix. ( it has been reserected so may times... )
I just bought a wind chime this weekend and hung it on our deck... Ever since it seems so much more tranqual around here...
I have moravian star christmas lights hung up
all year around...
Things that make it home and yet fulfills that need for something more...

my car is named "sparks." i keep a little trove of things in a small box on his dashboard: an acorn, some sage leaves, and other things i find and think he would like.
(he has 143,000 miles on him, and still going strong. yay!) this weekend i promised him a wash and wax.
and in my room at home--candles, candles, candles! i like the light and the tranquility, and think they lend rather a magical air. i also use essential oils for fragrance, and it is quite easy to select them for magical purposes as well. (too much strife? lavender and sweet orange. too sleepy and slow? peppermint and lemon. want to dream? clary sage and cinnamon. things like that.)
i do not live in my own place at the current time, so i don't have a lot of "stuff", but i do rather look forward to gathering some things when i finally do get out on my own.
and i was taught that horseshoes should be hung above the door, points up, to hold in the luck.
