I hear the phrase "all is Brahman" and suddenly questions come up. What do you really mean by that?

Are we apart of Brahman? (Like an expression of him) or merely something created by him, And are separate from him.

Do you believe Brahman is in humans or rocks, etc...?
Not as in you could say "yes I'am brahman" or "that tree is Brahman" but as if Brahman is a kind of soul that keeps things in existance.

Thanks in advance --Tiffy

Hi,

Let me try explaining this so simple but still so confused concept!!. I am sure i will not be able to do any justify to the depths of this vedantic concept.

Brahman means the supreme GodHead whole divine spark is present in each and every creation in this world. By everything we mean everything. He is all pervasive. As in Geeta Sri Krishna says, he is the knowledge, he is the knower,he is unknown. He is all that ever was, that ever is and that will ever come to be.

Vedanta, and in particular Adavita philisopy, stresses on the concept of 'Tat Tvam Asti' meaning you are that.
Brahman is the all pervasive spirit who supports life in all its form. All of us have the same Brahamanic spark within us. We are all united by the same Brahman that is the consciousness, outside of consciousness and whats is within consciousness.

Hope that helps in any manner.

Regards,

There is a lot of misunderstanding about GOD in Hinduism. Like all other cultures, Hindus started worshiping 33 gods during Rig Vedic times. Then they started worshiping ONE AND ONLY GOD --BRAHMAN which expresses itself in trillions of forms.

Hindus worship

One and only God- Brahman, which expresses itself in trillions of forms.

According to Hindu scriptures God has no name or form [nama-roopa] But man with his very limited mental capability cannot conceive a God without a name or form. So Hindu scriptures call God with thousands of names [ Sahasranama]

In Vedas and Upanishads [6000 BC] God is described in two ways.

SAGUNA BRAHMAN –God with attributes ...That is God is everything. God is Sun, Moon, stars, water, rain, Jesus, Buddha, Allah, Jehovah, YOU and I. In fact there is nothing which is not God.

NIRGUNA BRAHMAN - God with out any attributes – God is NOTHING. God cannot be compared to anything known to mankind. God is not SUN, God is not MOON, God is not SEA etc. God is described NETI-NETI [ not this, not that format]

Lord Krishna said in the Bhagavad Gita,

"Call me by what ever name you like;
Worship me in any form you like;
All that goes to one and only supreme reality."

Hindu Rig Veda [6000 BC] states,
"There is only one truth and GOD, but men describe it in different ways"

God or BRAHMAN is described

Some of the statements made about God in Hindu scriptures are:

1-----"Ekam Brahm, dvitiya naste neh na naste kinchan"
"There is only one God, not the second; not at all, not at all, not in the least bit."

2-----"Na tasya Pratima asti" "There is no image of Him." [Yajurveda 32:3]

3----"Na tasya pratima asti" "There is no likeness of Him." [Svetasvatara Upanishad 4:19]

4----"na tasya pratima asti "There is no image of Him." [Yajurveda 32:3]

5---- Ekam evadvitiyam" "He is One only without a second." [Chandogya Upanishad 6:2:1]

6----"Na samdrse tisthati rupam asya, na caksusa pasyati kas canainam."

"His form is not to be seen; no one sees Him with naked eye."[Svetasvatara Upanishad 4:20]

HINDU SCRIPTURES STATE:

1. Everything came from God - the Brahman as well as everything are the reflections of God. Creation is part and parcel of God. It comes from God and it goes back to God, in a cyclical, perpetual manner.

2. God is the unknown element behind everything in the world; like electricity is the backbone of the toaster, fan, microwave oven, air-conditioner, computer, tape-recorder etc, still output of each of that item are different.

3. I AM GOD concept is much preached in society by Newagers now. It actually originated in Hinduism, which states AHAM BRAHAMASMIN meaning "I AM NOT THE PHYSICAL BODY BUT THE SOUL WITHIN WHICH IS INDEED GOD"
That concept is supposed to make a man humbler than a blade of grass. But unluckily, Newagers mistook the whole concept and somehow use it for ego-gratification.

4---It is very clearly stated that nobody will realize God by shouting and screaming I AM GOD. It has to be achieved in time, by good works, prayers and meditation.
