This issue has been presented a number of times, but I wanted to get some personal input on it. What do YOU think is the possibility of God being a woman? After giving birth to a child (although it was painful) it's hard for me to believe that God meant this to be a PUNISHMENT to women. I believe it is truly a gift that men are unfortunate not to have. So please, anyone out there, feel free to chime in and let me know if you think GOD COULD POSSIBLY BE A WOMAN.

Thanks!

mocha: My personal view on this:

Don't really think that God is one gender or another as such.. and maybe a complex combination of both...or simply an IT as in a highest form of energy that us humanoids are simply NOT capable of comprehending .

I do think that to try and provide a specific gender to God is to limit him/her/it. And one cannot limit the limitless. , the all encompassing, the Unknown .

No, nothing about childbirth is "punishment' . That is an old tale that came from somewhere down the ages and is having a hard time dying. Childbirth is simply the biological/physical capability based on the way a female is constructed. Don't think there is any mystical reason for the pain except for the physicality of it. The pain as such varies with each individual and some seem to give birth with such ease it is amazing..others who are tense , nervous, etc seem to have more problems... as the state of mind and emotion factor in too.

I agree with the above...

It is difficult to assign gender to God, as if he were truly human in form. He may be, but who knows. When it comes to depicting God as white, olive skinned, or even black, this represents out projection as to our own likeness. We want God to be "like us", as we also find confort in knowing/believing to be created in His very own image and likeness.

Coming more from the Buddist angle, I believe God can be what you want Him or Her to be. However, in sum, given his power, I would think such an entity has surpassed qualities such as gender or even race.

Just me two cents... :)

Humanity has gotten into too much trouble when we've anthropomorphized the ALLness of Being. God is ALL, not part, but ALL.

To say that God is one gender, one race, one form of expression does two things: it limits God, obviously, but it also raises one aspect over another in our minds, which can be a form of idolatry.

The expression of motherhood with its warmth, love and nurture, with its creative, birthing aspects, with its receptivity and patient waiting for fruition is as much a part of God as any male aspect.

The Taoist symbol represents the wholeness of God, as yin AND yang, and when we personally embody as much of God as we are able, regardless of our plumbing, then we are a fuller expression of God.

And God, as I know IT, wants that from each of us.

be all you can be.
