The alternative to “mistake phobia” is to become interested in mistakes. Instead of trying to avoid miscues at all costs, study what happens with interest. A keen interest in what just happened is incompatible with harsh judgment. “Hmmm, that was interesting, what can I learn from this?” When you can let go of the need for things to be perfect, you can rest in this moment as it is. You can make room for your mistakes; you can create a space where things can be imperfect. You can experience equanimity no matter what.
