When can anger be a healthy emotion versus a negative emotion?
We must first separate the “feeling” of anger from the “response” to anger. Feelings are neutral; it’s unhealthy to ignore, deny, or squash feelings. Anger can lead to constructive outcomes. It can be the impetus for fighting injustice, for consciousness-raising about quality of life issues, and for exposing toxic relationships. It is only when anger is associated with aggression or violence that it becomes negative.
