Fireworks

July is like a sparkler:
bright, hot, and somewhat dangerous.
Who can work, after all,
in the languorous sun of a summer's day?
Perhaps You made July as a lesson—
we, all of us, could use a break.

Even You.
I will use this month
to still my grumbling tongue,
and deliver to You only
the accolades of a long,
hot summer's day.

You are my pink lemonade,
my fireworks display.
You are heat and light
and marvelous wonder.

You are more rousing
than a parade,
more restful than a summer night.
You are my July.

- Dorothy Donnelly,
"God and the Apple of His Eye"

Angels are said to "carry" our prayers to God (a kind of figurative way of speaking, like the expression, "I carry the people I love in my heart"), which shows how all of creation is beautifully bound together: men and angels in Christ, in God.
