Torment

She used to come home from school
chattering about friends and fun
and all the new things she had done.
Now she drags herself through the door.
She hangs onto me and cannot let go.

Every day, their words hurt her heart and soul.
Lend me Your wisdom,
as I help her cope with these bullies.
Lend me Your strength
when I call the teacher and the principal.

Only with Your grace
can I explain the situation respectfully,
insisting on the change that must happen.
Only with You beside me,
can I let her go out the door again,
smiling and believing that a good day is possible.
