When End is Near

Are we supposed to pray for someone to get better when we know their condition is terminal? I often wonder if praying for a peaceful end to suffering, means I’ve shortchanged a human life.

Medical ethics is a very big deal. The greatest minds in science and theology are weighing in on the pros and cons of complicated moral dilemmas. I admit to being overwhelmed by these issues, but I feel confident that I am doing all I can when using my voice in prayer for gratitude.

One spiritual leader, Jack Reimer, makes a great point:

“We now have hospices and effective painkillers, and therefore can care for people even when we cannot cure them. In doing so, we give them precious time to add up their lives and give their blessings to their children.”

If you’re not sure how to pray when someone is gravely ill, don’t stress. Instead, be grateful and thank the One who gives us difficult choices, and provides comfort for those we care for and love.

Sensing Grace

I finally sense the grace
that is at my grasp every day.
It is here.

When it's frigid,
when it's bleak,
when I'm joyous.
It is here.

When health suffers,
when loved ones pass,
when I'm grateful.
It is here.

When hearts ache,
when fear festers,
when I'm content.
It is here.

It is here, because
You are here.

"HOW HAVE YOU HANDLED A PAINFUL
PRAYER MOMENT?"
