Daily Inspiration: Stay Married

Be Proud and Brag was number five on the list “15 Ways to Stay Married.” Lynda wrote a great blog post that went viral quickly. It’s practical relationship advice that doesn’t include the usual “have a date night” or “bring her flowers” kind of stuff you see on other lists.

The main theme of Lynda’s list is loyalty. You’re a team of two with your spouse. Loyalty is the first, second, and only guiding principle in a marriage. Without it, you’re on shaky ground. When you dismiss the possibility of divorce, and stand firm in devotion to each other, you’re able to handle the stupid little annoyances, and the great big problems that come your way.

Paul Simon had a hit single singing a chorus about “50 Ways to Leave Your Lover.” The lyrics went something like; "’The problem is all inside your head’ she said to me...” He got one thing right; your relationship is a head game.  It’s not only what you feel in your heart, or how outside factors affect your love. It’s using the good sense God gave you to make a marriage work. That’s why it’s critical to keep your head in the game.

Lynda shares fifteen ways to love, not leave, your lover. You probably know even more. Start now and brag about your spouse. Do it loudly, proudly, and in public. Make sure he or she can hear you. Do it for the one you love, do it for the team.

Prayer for Loyalty

Dear God,
Remind me of Your virtue of loyalty.
When I am angry or disappointed
plant my feet firmly where I need to be
and I will not flee from those I love.
