Caroline had nothing but brothers.  She grew up the only girl child in a house full of rough and tumble boys. It was torture for a Barbie playing girly-girl who wanted a sister more than anything in the world.

She was twenty when it first happened. Her eldest brother married Arabell and voila! Caroline had her sister.  They started coming fast and furious after that. Eventually she found herself married with even more sisters (in-law.) Now one of a total of seven “sisters” in her extended family she couldn’t be happier.

Being a careful observer of sibling relationships, she realized her childhood female oneness was really a blessing after all. She had the advantage of missing out on the drama of growing up with sisters, and the benefit of acquiring her sisters when she was mature enough to avoid the likely family squabbles.

It’s special to look back at your childhood prayers and birthday wishes and notice that you now have what you always wanted. God is good. And yes, He does answer prayers in His own time and in His own way. If you have a sister (family born or not) who is your answered prayer, let her know it. Sing out to God and give thanks for the sisters in your life who bring you joy.
