Daily Inspiration: Contentment
The Sabbath is more than a day of rest. It’s a statement of contentment. We know we’re supposed to make the Sabbath day holy. It’s a day off from work, and a time to praise God. But what has being content got to do with it?
Brianna thinks she knows. For six days she furiously goes about the business of gain: Earn a paycheck, run errands, make life better. But the seventh day is the time she says: “I have enough.” It’s a day Brianna stops to appreciate what she already has— it’s a day she feels contentment.
Stress and pressure is part of the workweek, but come the weekend; it’s a no-fly zone for worry and sadness. Brianna endured a test of faith the week her mother died. Yet she joined her community in worship and immediately felt better.
Each person carries something unique into their Sabbath; some have hearts filled with loss or regret. Others are bursting with celebration and gratitude. Regardless of what’s happening in your life, you are commanded to be joyous on the day the Lord has made.

Prayer for Contentment
Dear God:
You gave me the gift of the Sabbath and I accept it graciously.
In your infinite wisdom you know I need 24 hours to stop… and breathe.
I appreciate the treasures in my life and I have you to thank for them.
Thank you dear Lord for reminding me that contentment is mine.
