Average height, weight, intelligence or skills; you name it. Like thousands of others, I’m just average. We lack extraordinary, untypical or exceptional characteristics. We put in average days for average wages, live in average homes with average families and follow God in an average way because that’s all anyone expects of us.

In 1873, Henry Varley told Dwight L. Moody that ‘the world has yet to see what God can do with a man fully consecrated to him.’  Dwight L. Moody cried ‘By God’s help, I aim to be that man!’

Later Moody proclaimed, “If this world is going to be reached, I am convinced that it must be done by men and women of average talent. After all, there are comparatively few people in this world who have great talents."

What if we expected more of ourselves? What if we reversed our negative thinking? What if we understood that we are as close to the top as we are to the bottom? What if we took the slogan of Newark Liberty Airport as our own? "Adjust Your Expectations to the Upright Position."
