Apologize. "I am deeply and sincerely sorry." Keep it simple. There's no need to get into details of what you're sorry about, or why you're apologizing.
Say you're sorry and be quiet. Allow the person on the receiving end to accept your apology...or not.
Be prepared, you may hear more anger and more hurtful words. Resist the urge to defend yourself or to get in one last dig.
