Why is There a War on Christianity?

Date: 04/23/2014

Every time I turn on the news I hear about some group who is trying to strip God out of the culture. They don't want prayer in school, God on our money, the 10 commandments in court rooms, Christian clubs to meet on college campuses (but Sex Week is fine), manger scenes on lawns, I could go on and on.., but you get the point. To me, this just defies logic! I have to wonder what is in the heart ...

If I Am a Moral Relativist, So is God

Date: 04/17/2014

Evidently, I am a moral relativist. In a recent article, I applauded a colleague for adapting to our school stage a play— Songs for a New World.  This play, I contended, marked a quite radical departure from the standard Politically Correct line insofar as it resoundingly affirmed “the morality of individuality.”  This phrase, I noted, was coined by a conservative philosopher, Michael Oakeshot ...

Pope Francis: As Clever a Politician as They Come

Date: 04/04/2014

Much to the disappointment of this Catholic, Pope Francis balked on a golden opportunity to convey to the world just how fundamentally, how vehemently, the vision of the Church differs from that of President Obama when the two met a couple of weeks back. Why?  Can it be that Francis is the fellow traveler that the left-wing press has been making him out to be? Resoundingly, Roman Catholic writer ...

Go see "Son of God" -- no matter what The Wrap's atheist critic snarks

Date: 02/27/2014

Here’s today’s dispatch from the crossroads of faith, media and culture. Jumping the snark. For the second time in a matter of weeks I find myself taking issue with a critic from The Wrap (a site I otherwise enjoy and have even written for ). I objected when Alonso Duralde made the compassionately honest Gimme Shelte r out to be some sort of judgmental screed against anyone who supporte ...

Valentine's Day and Islam - the virtues of mohabbat (love)

Date: 02/14/2014

Happy Valentine's Day! I am biased towards appreciating Valentine's Day not just for it's Gujarati origins but also because it's my birthday. However, not all Muslims share my appreciation. Here's a typical example : In its official Friday sermon text distributed to mosques in the Muslim-majority country, the Malaysian Islamic Development Department blamed Valentine's Day for everything ...
