People behave like morons sometimes, we can agree on that. One of the antics is taking a selfie at the former Nazi concentration camp at Auschwitz in Poland, which many find disgraceful. Another move that is making people upset is the facility installing sprinklers outside to cool off visitors during temperatures that reached 100 degrees over one weekend.

The misting stations reminded many of the gas showers used to kill thousands of Jews during World War II. Visitors found the reference distasteful. Representatives from the memorial explained the decision on Facebook after the controversy.

They explained that the pipe had no reference to the showers installed by the Germans inside the gas chambers of the camp--officials didn’t see the connection.

“It is really hard for us to comment on some suggested historical references since the mist sprinkles do not look like showers and the fake showers installed by Germans inside some of the gas chambers were not used to deliver gas into them. Zyklon B was dropped inside the gas chambers in a completely different way - through holes in the ceiling or airtight drops in walls.” Israeli tourist Meir Bulka lost relatives during the Holocaust sharing with The Jerusalem Post that “the showers that the Jews were forced to take before entering the gas chambers.”

He wasn’t the only one disgraced. One person called it a ‘Holocaust gimmick.’ The cooling stations were placed outside the ticket counters.

The Jewish community understands the outrage, but the situation was blown out of proportion. Chief Rabbi Michael Schudrich told the outlet. “Temperatures reached 40 degrees C and the administration wanted to ensure the safety of their visitors.”
