Great article, Pat. As you said, forgiveness is a process and not wholly dependent upon forgiveness being forthcoming from those involved. All that matters is that one is heartily sorry for their transgressions, and seeks improvement along the path. To me the Deen issue was trivial; what else should we expect from the social configuration of Deen's time and place? But it is incumbent upon all of us, irrespective of time or locale, to transcend the social flaws of any time or place seek existence on a higher plane. It was true in Deen's time and it's true now. There will always be social mores that we need to critique and challenge, because those mores are created by humans and are inherently flawed. Well done!
