When you bring fruit home from the store do you:
A. Put all fruit into the refrigerator in the plastic bag from the store?
B. Wash with dish soap and water, dry, put into a zip bag then into the refrigerator.
C. Put all of the fruit into a bowl, cover with a plastic dome lid and set out on the counter?
D. Put just the melons in the refrigerator?
E. None of the above.
What should you do? E. None of them!
All fruits are not the same! Some should be put in the refrigerator the minute you get home from the grocery store. Others, like apples, can sit out for a day or two. The temperature of your kitchen does have a lot to do with how long fruit sitting on the counter will be good. Is it warm in the summer months? Then probably only a day or two is a good guess for how long fresh fruit can sit out.
