Families with this pattern often wind up with adolescents who are under-supervised and get in trouble. When these teens act out, it can be seen as a desperate attempt to get attention, even if negative, when appropriate closeness and time together are lacking. Sometimes we call it, “Looking for limits in all the wrong places!” With more and more dual career parents spending fewer hours at home, this pattern is increasingly common.
