It's simple, turn it off and unplug. If you're not in a room turn off the light. If you're not using an appliance unplug it. Many people think that by just turning a device off or turning the switch off, that there is no electricity running to that device. However as an example, if you use your toaster and leave it plugged in, the flow of electricity is still traveling to the device; same thing with your cell phone charger that stays in the wall socket. The plug is still radiating heat and using power. So when you're done using an appliance whether it's a toaster, blender, coffee machine, charger or any other gadget - unplug it!
