Twenty players made up what Sports Illustrated coined as “The Miracle on Ice.”  Coach Herb Brooks led Team USA to a gold medal win against Finland in Lake Placid, New York during the 1980 Winter Olympics. Team USA came back from a 2-1 third period deficit to defeat Finland 4-2. The Soviet Union was the favorite going in because they had not lost an Olympic tournament since 1954. Before the game Coach Brooks read a note to his team, "You were born to be a player. You were meant to be here. This moment is yours." Their story will forever live in the history books and inspired two movies to be filmed.
